Visit the popular city of Nice, on the warm coast of the Mediterranean Sea

Nice is one of the most popular tourist destinations in France and in Europe, well known for its excellent climate and relaxed, holiday feel. It is well situated in the South East of the country and on the coast of the Mediterranean Sea. There are many nearby beaches to visit, both public and private. The city is known as 'Nice la Belle' (Nice the beautiful). Nice is also the fifth largest city in France. It houses over 1 million inhabitants: though it is estimated to draw around 4 million tourists every year to its warm and pleasant climate. The temperature of Nice in summer stays typically in the 20s (centigrade) and the winters are mild.

Some of the oldest evidence of human existence was discovered in an archaeological site that is near Nice. The city itself was established by the Ancient Greeks. In the 18th Century it was popular as a destination for rest, recuperation and relaxation, but particularly in winter, due to its mild and relatively warm climate. Nice was so popular with British visitors that a road in the city is called Promenade des Anglais (Walk of the English).

You can visit Nice by flying with the largest French airline, Air France. Why not book online for your airline ticket? You can also check in online, book hired cars and book your own personalised options for your flight, such as baggage, seat location, and eating options. There are some great entertainment options for your journey, with movies, music, and games available on your own personal video screen.

Nice has museums, galleries and great food to enjoy

Nice has drawn numerous artists to enjoy its shores. Apart from relaxing in the beautiful weather, there are many attractions to enjoy during your stay. Henri Matisse spent time there, and it is possible to visit the Musee Matisse that is dedicated to his work. There are also a number of other museums and art galleries. For example, those who enjoy modern and contemporary art can visit the Musée d'art Moderne et d'art Contemporain, also known as MAMAC. Musée Marc Chagall showcases the artist's religious work. There are also museums dedicated to the navy, Asian art and naïve art. The Opera de Nice shows regular classical music and ballet performances, and there is a fine botanical garden. There is an annual Jazz Festival in the summer. The annual Nice Carnival, which runs for 2 weeks in February, attracts many visitors, and has a different theme each year.

There are many fine restaurants, cafes and small and unique shops: especially in the Pedestrian Zone. There are four large distinct squares. The local cuisine is very Mediterranean, with plenty of delicious locally produced olive oil, fruit and vegetables that are popular in the area. Nice has a number of speciality local dishes, such as a tart made with anchovies called 'Pissaladiere', and a pancake called 'Socca'. There is also the famous Nicoise salad: made with tuna, tomatoes, egg and olives.
