Milan, Italy's economic centre
Air France offers flights to Milan, a city in the north of Italy departing from Hong Kong. The Milan region has three airports: Malpensa, Bergamo-Orio al Serio and Linate. Most often, Air France flights arrive at Linate. Flights from Hong Kong to Milan have connections in Paris or Amsterdam. When you arrive, you can reach the city centre by bus (about twenty minutes). The city itself has a network of tramways, subways and buses.
Milan is a large city, the second in Italy in terms of population after Rome, with nearly 1.3 million inhabitants (7.1 million for the greater region). Before being annexed by the Italian Kingdom in 1861, Milan was the capital of the Cisalpine Republic until the end of the 18th century, and capital of the Lombardy-Venetia Kingdom in 1815.

Take a flight to Milan for an interesting trip. Milan is Italy's economic hub but the city also has many tourist attractions. To start with, the Duomo, in the heart of the city. The world's third largest church surprises by its splendour and elegant late gothic style. The construction began in 1386 but was not finished until 500 years later. You can climb to the top and admire the view of Duomo square and the rest of the city.
Not far from there you can walk along the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II. It is covered with a remarkable glass and steel arch that was finished in 1867. It is one of Europe's most beautiful passages and it especially leads to the world famous Scala de Milan, where the greatest opera singers perform.
Another emblematic monument in Milan is the Sforzesco castle located in the heart of the city. In a modern city like Milan, it is surprising to see a castle built during the 14th century by Galeazzo Visconti to defend the city against Venice!
Also, if you can only visit one church in Milan, visit the Santa Maria delle Grazie Church to see Leonardo de Vinci's famous mural of “The Last Supper”.

Travelling to Milan: useful tips
If you are not a citizen of the European Union, to enter Italy you will need a passport that remains valid at least three months after the date that you plan to leave the Schengen area, an area of 26 countries where people and merchandise can circulate freely that includes Italy. However, you do not need a visa for stays less than 90 days.
The currency in Italy is the euro. Credit cards are accepted everywhere.
If you would like to rent a car when you arrive in Milan, it is recommended to have an international driver's license.
The best periods to travel to Milan, are the months of May, June and September and October (average temperature 20 degrees). The weather is warm and pleasant and there is little rain.
