Why not take a cheap flight to Marseille? Air France offers plane fares at good prices for France's second largest city. Several daily flights are available with connections in either Amsterdam or Paris.

You will land in Marseille at Marseille Provence airport, located 30 km to the northwest of Marseille, and you can reach the city by shuttle for about 8.50 euros or by taxi.

The city has a network of 90 bus lines, two subway lines and two tramway lines. Marseille is a large city with a population of 850,700 inhabitants (1.6 million for the greater area), France's second city in terms of population. If you take a flight to Marseille, you will notice that the city has a remarkable architectural heritage. The bay is surrounded by the Saint-Nicolas and Saint-Jean forts and shelters the Château d'If.

The Notre-Dame-de-la-Garde hill is dominated by the basilica of the same name. The Marseillais call it the “Good mother”, since it watches over their city…It is also one of the city's symbols, as is the Vieux Port (Old Port), the historical and cultural centre of the city which today is a marina; other port activities have been moved to the Grand Port in Marseille. Today the Vieux Port is a semi-pedestrian area and a popular gathering place with café terraces and breweries. La Canebière, the city centre's main street, leaves the Vieux Port to the Réformés Church and is lined with many shops.

Discover the imposing Palais du Pharo, built in 1852 by Napoleon III, or the Palais Longchamp, built during the 1860s. The latter is now a museum for Fine Arts and Natural History. Marseille is a city of art and history. In fact, it was named the European capital of culture in 2013.
